interlakes sports center
I was lucky enough to get a chance to visit an existing, but vacant, sports center in the city of Lakeshore in Minnesota. It’s called the Interlakes Sports Center and the building is in the process of being converted into apartments. However, I was able to get the inside scoop on the current tenants.
The center itself is a large two story, open field, with a few of the smaller buildings on the north side of the field. The rest of the building is mostly a large parking lot. There’s really one large entrance on each end of the building. All of the buildings are connected by a covered, walkway. There’s a small playground next to the building and a few basketball courts, but the center itself is a massive facility.
The interlakes basketball court is a little too large for most of the team, I understand. However, I was able to get a little inside story on the current head coach of the team, Dr. James “Jimmy” Korn. He’s a former military guy who now is an orthopedic surgeon and a big proponent of sports medicine. Dr. Korn is quite outspoken and sometimes controversial.
As someone who loves sports and loves to talk about it, I had a lot of fun with this trailer. It was fun to see Korn’s face when he was caught getting into a brawl with some of the opposing team’s players. He ended up getting suspended from the school for a week and then it was back to work for Korn that is.
Korn is no stranger to controversy either. After a video of him breaking up with his girlfriend went viral, he’s had a lot of people asking him what he did to deserve her. He says the video was just misinterpreted and that he was just trying to find a new girlfriend. He’s also had a lot of people make the argument that he should have been fired from the school for being so much of a loner.
Hes been in a lot of hot water with the media lately, but I don’t know about you, but I am a sucker for a good prank. So last night, while we were watching the video from last week, Korn was supposed to get suspended from the school for a week and then back to work. But instead hes been banned from school. His teacher says that hes been “acting out” and has been “acting out in class.
Well, it seems Hes been doing a lot of that lately. He was suspended a week ago for allegedly breaking a student’s arm. A week prior to that, he was called to the principal’s office for an outburst during class. Then, this weekend, he was suspended for being disruptive to students in the middle of the day. All of this coming after his father was fired for lying about the family moving to Mexico.
If you are a student at any public school in the United States, then the fact that you are in such a high school is a huge red flag. It shows that the school has problems, and that it is in no position to be running a school. It tells the world that the school is not doing what is right for students. The school should be a place for students to learn and grow, and it should make some of the teachers’ jobs a little easier.
Interlakes sports center is a place where students can go to learn more about themselves, their talents, and also make friends. And like many other public schools, the school isn’t doing a good job of recruiting the right kind of people for those jobs. For example, the school has a lot of young adults who have no connections to anything outside of football. The current students are the first generation of kids who grew up during the recession, and their parents are just as broke.
That’s not to say it’s a bad school. It has a lot of good things going for it, including a great sports team that is known for its high expectations, a well-respected education program, and a student body that seems to want to learn more. For the most part though, it could use a little more of that energy.
