When you’re getting older, you may feel like you have more time to do things that you used to enjoy, but it’s actually more difficult for us seniors to do those things. Of course, you may have to take a day off, but if you take a day off, that means you are no longer working for a company and you are free to start doing whatever you want. So all of those extra days off, you will actually be more productive.
We all know the benefits of working, but what about the downsides? If you don’t take a day off often enough, you might not even be getting a day off. There are a number of reasons why taking a day off is good for you, such as to work out, to take care of yourself, and to do some “stress reduction”.
This is where the benefits kick in. If you are working too much, you might be spending too much time at work. You might not be getting any sleep. If you are too tired from too much work, you might be a little less efficient in your work. You might not be able to do as much work as you could. You might not be able to think about your work as you would like.
This might sound like a lot of negatives, but there is one positive. You won’t get in as many cars. You won’t get as many sick days. You won’t miss your boss. You won’t get as many vacation days. You might even get more sleep. You might even be able to keep your job.
In general, older adults are more likely to be on a low-stress diet, so they might actually be able to sleep better than younger adults. And because it’s possible that younger adults might have trouble sleeping at all, they might actually be getting any sleep at all. That leads to a third positive: that older adults might actually be getting as much sleep as younger adults.
The thing is, though, it’s not actually possible for older adults to get as much sleep as younger adults. Most of them are working. And the thing about working is that they tend to get tired more easily than younger adults.
