I know it’s not the most popular topic, but I’m going to put myself out there. I’m a full-time athlete, but as a family medicine doctor, I spend a lot of time in the office. They offer a new service that lets athletes in any sport (like football, basketball, baseball, boxing, etc.) connect with a certified physician in the same city. The physician will review the athlete’s medical history and determine if the athlete needs to see a specialist. If the athlete needs to see a specialist, the athlete will be referred to the specialist.

The athlete would then be provided with information about the specialist and his or her areas of expertise.

It’s not quite as simple as a physical exam and finding a specialist, but it’s a step in the right direction. Hopefully, the new service will save athletes like Edina from seeing a doctor twice.
