If you look at the NCAA Division I basketball tournament, you will see that the best college teams can only ever win 3 of the 12 tournaments they play in. So if youre an aspiring basketball player who has a chance to play for a College Cup championship, you would need to get 2 of those 12 tournaments.

That’s why I’m a big proponent of an intercollegiate competition. If NCAA basketball were to start, then those 12 tournaments would still have to be played because only the top teams could compete. But because college football is so big and the college games are so competitive, the only way to guarantee a championship is to have a national tournament.

College basketball will never have a national tournament because its not necessary. When I was a freshman, I was a member of the freshman All-America team. A national tournament would have been like, “Now you can join us to play!” because we could play with the team that made it to the championship that year.

The reason for the tournament is the same reason why it’s important to have a bowl game. But the College Football Playoff is a different story. Instead of simply a national tournament, a playoff would determine the champion of the season.
